The article above is about a boxer that chose to be beside his wife suffering leukemia and surrender his title rather than fight in what could have been a life changing fight for him. He is a true hero, he is the kind of athlete kids should idolize. Instead our pop culture looks to the bad boys that are standard jerks. Why do we do this? What if we lived in a culture that people that are true heroes are the ones on Wheaties boxes, how different would our kids grow up? How different would our society be like?
Side Note: Could you imagine that all that money people waste on buying/watching things like Jersey Shore, or shows and products that are very wasteful of our minds and ethics, was spent on funding research in cancer, funding hospitals, money to the poor, etc. The world would be a much better place. A little off topic and said many times before, but this article just brought it to the forefront of my mind.
